Renovation Blunders You'd Want to Avoid

A shout out to everyone who replied with their own avoidable renovation mistakes.

Next time use a ruler

When you hire someone to build your apartment, you hope they know what they're doing. You trust them with the design, the measurements and the construction. So when something like this happens, it's completely mind-boggling — the walls simply don't line up as they're supposed to.

No way out

No matter where the beds are placed in this master bedroom, the porch door is really awkward to reach, being behind the beds. It had to be changed to a narrower door with an extra panel piece, opening outwards instead of inwards.

FANtastic

The blades of this fan got a little too close for comfort to the walls, leaving nasty marks that won't be coming out any time soon. This room needs a new fan, a new coat of paint, and better planning.

Sink too far

What a shame. This meaty/milky double sink is rendered useless, as the water doesn't even reach the second sink.

Tilt your head

Either this is supposed to be abstract art, or someone didn't use a level when installing this window. We hope it's just the window that's tilted and not the entire house — but we have a feeling many other things inside were not installed correctly. A perfect example of why you should spend the money on a good kablan.

This way up

How can anyone get this so wrong? Doors are pretty standard — they swing open and closed and people walk through them. This one will take some serious gymnastics.

Claustrophobic corner

It seems the renovator put everything with a hinge on it in the same corner of the kitchen. There must be a lot of scratch marks on that microwave from things constantly banging into one another. This kitchen might benefit from a little rearranging just to bring some order to the chaos.

Outlet trouble

In another display of a lack of reasoning, someone decided it was a great idea to put water right next to an electrical outlet — which, as we all know, is a big no-no. If anyone turns this tap on, they'd better run.

Take a seat

Someone along the way should have realised there was a problem, but somehow they finished construction and ended up with this. It looks like a fairly expensive bathroom, complete with marble counters — but none of that matters if it's so badly constructed it isn't usable.
