Get Your Home Ready for Winter

With the changing of the clocks come the early chilly evenings, the long dark nights, and a great deal of time spent at home.

So how will you make your home inviting, cosy, and give it that magical appeal?

Start with the dining room

Here's a simple, low-cost idea for a prestigious look: a piece of furry material, cut in a random yet symmetrical shape and placed under your centrepiece, can be so effective. There are a variety of material shops on Rechov Yaffo selling this in different colours.

The living room

Pillows and throws can be used dynamically to bring texture, warmth and style, creating enchanting living rooms.

Here's a composition of pillows I bought recently. The furry pillow feels so authentic it may be the closest you'll get to stroking a pet — sorry, I didn't mean to put you off.

Here's another formation of pillows I bought collectively, one of which was a plain velvet. I embellished it by embroidering an initial on it with a couple of diamonds, taking it to a whole new level. See how it complements the room's colour scheme and decor, adding that personal touch.

Try this: start with a solid velvet cushion, then go and embroider your own initial and design onto it. It's the cheapest way to make something feel bespoke.

Or do you go for the shaggy look?

And have you ever thought about adding a rug underfoot in your living area? Not only does a rug define the area, it adds an extra layer of comfort and texture.

The bedrooms

For a wintery, intimate atmosphere: a throw can be used as a summer blanket, and in winter placed on top of a thicker quilt for extra warmth and chic. This is how I used a double-sided grey and ochre throw.
